Standard Cleaning

A quick living room cleaning guide

The goal of this guide is to help you tidy visible messes and provide upkeep. If you find that the room is too messy or it has been some time since your last deep clean, then it is probably time for one. This should not take you more than an hour; if done right and consistently, cleaning may even take as little as 15 minutes.

Steps

  1. Remove items that don't belong such as trash, dishes, and lingering items
  2. Have or make a space for items that belong in the room so the space remains tidy and well kept
  3. Shoes, blankets, dishes, and trash are usually the biggest issue.
Pro Tip
  • Bring a trash bag and a basket to collect clutter and garbage. This makes it easy to relocate items once you have finished cleaning.

Declutter

Decluttering should consist of picking up trash and removing items that don’t belong. We find that working from top to bottom and left to right results in a more consistent clean. Keep the following checklist items in mind when decluttering.

Dusting

The living room is usually a space that sees heavy dust accumulation because of its size. It’s important to consistently dust and wipe surfaces to keep the space clean and free of allergens. Keep the following checklist items in mind when dusting.

Steps

  1. Dust high to low and left to right
  2. Furniture tops and empty surfaces
  3. Decorative items
  4. Electronics
  5. Open windows or turn on fans
  6. Check and change air filters in air purifiers as needed
Pro Tips
  • If you see a thick layer of dust on a surface or cobwebs in corners, it may be time for a deep clean.

Steps

  1. Empty any waste baskets
  2. Vacuum carpets and rugs
  3. Sweep and mop hard floors
Pro Tip
  • Keep a small decorative wastebasket in the room to make cleaning easier and keep the space tidy.

Vacuum, sweep and mop

Dust and pet dander don’t just accumulate on electronics and center table surfaces; your floor sees the most dirt, dust, and dander in the room. It’s important to keep carpets, rugs, and hard floors swept and vacuumed to prevent more dust and dirt from getting on other surfaces. Make sure the following checklist items are on your cleaning list.
